There aren’t a whole lot of choices for celebrating the Chinese New Year in St Anton am Arlberg. In fact there is one Chinese restaurant, the Shanghai on the high street (Dorfstrasse). It also sells sushi, which is a slightly odd combo. This makes deciding where to go pretty easy. Is it a baby friendly restaurant?
We went at lunchtime at the weekend and there was only one other table of customers there. So it is definitely not too busy for a baby. And because it was quiet the staff were great with D; they interacted with her and offered treats like slices of fresh orange.
In terms of baby facilities, they have a high chair that has seen better days. Of course no changing facilities. As it is quiet at lunchtime, the floor was pretty clean and dry, so fine for a baby to toddle around.
So to the food. It’s not necessarily a restaurant that gets the best reviews in town. But it does have the cheapest lunch in town – from 6.90€ for a two course set menu. This gives you a starter of hot soup and then either a noodle main or dish served with rice. Or sushi if you take a detour into Japanese. Sweetly they gave D an alternative soup because they thought she wouldn’t like the hot soup (she did). To be frank, it is nowhere near the best Chinese food you will have had. Definitely a cheap and cheerful option for lunch. I wouldn’t recommend it as an evening destination with a baby. It tends to fill up with drunken skiers as it is one of the few places that will let you eat in ski boots. And it ceases to be good value.
