Buggy Friendly Winter Walk in Lech am Arlberg, Austria

Buggy Friendly Winter Walk in Lech

Lech am Arlberg is St Anton’s posher cousin famed for featuring in the film Bridget Jones’s Diary. It is something of a playground for the rich, so keep an eye out for famous faces! The ski areas were linked together for the first time in 2016/17 by the new Flexenbahn gondola. With my toddler in tow I went to investigate a buggy friendly winter walk in Lech.

Buggy Friendly Winter Walk in Lech: the route

If you head to the tourist office in Lech they will provide you with a map of winter walks. This will enable you to plan out your route. There is a lot more choice here than in St Anton. Lech appears to be much more geared up for walking, both in winter and summer.

Buggy Friendly Winter Walk in Lech

It was a warm Spring day, so we did not feel like anything too strenuous. We headed out of Lech towards Zug. The path was formed of well groomed snow. There were plenty of people strolling with buggies and baby carriers. Our Mountain Buggy Terrain made very light work of the conditions.

The path had a few undulations, but nothing too taxing. And there were plenty of sun-drenched benches on which to take a rest. I must admit we sat on one for quite some time. We admired the view and chatted while Daisy ran up and down the path.

Outside of Lech you enter some pretty woodland and it is very quiet. This makes it feel a bit more remote even though this is a very accessible walk. All you can hear is the running stream and a few birds (and my friend and I chatting…).

Buggy Friendly Winter Walk in Lech: post-walk lunch

For lunch we headed to the sunny terrace outside Pizzeria Don Enzo. Daisy and I shared gnocci with pesto and a salad. It was some of the best pesto I have tasted for quite some time. And Daisy had some fantastic home-made bread too. My friends were equally happy with their pizzas. Of course it was not cheap – this is Lech after all – but it wasn’t too bad, coming in at around the 30 Euro mark.

All in all it made for a pleasant day out. Although it was a shame that the playground in Lech was closed for the winter, so Daisy could not play before getting back on the bus. She really enjoyed looking out the bus window, which was a bonus, as it made the journey part of the experience for her. If you are travelling by bus in this part of Austria, note that some of the buses have luggage compartments under the bus for items such as buggies. Others are the more standard wheel-your-buggy-onto-the-bus type.

Plan your next holiday in Lech am Arlberg.

    1. It is good now she is getting to the age that she enjoys bus and train rides – it makes it part of the experience for her
